Written in the late 19th, this alternate national anthem for the State of Israel places the Torah as the central component of the Jewish People's return to its land (Eretz Yisrael), and sees this process as a bigger step for the redemption of Israel, and by extension, the world.

“Yerushalayim Shel Zahav” (“Jerusalem of Gold”) was written by Naomi Shemer in 1967, just before the Six-Day War. It was commissioned by Jerusalem’s mayor, Teddy Kollek, for a music festival, and originally expressed the longing for a divided Jeusalem — with the Old City, the Western Wall, and holy sites beyond reach.
