Renew my youthful joy, O G-d, I plead, and bring the prophet Eliyahu.

This pizmon, of unknown authorship, first appears in Mahzor Vitry at the turn of the 13th century. The name of the composer has been variously deciphered from the acrostic of either the first stich, חשאן, Hassan, or of the second stich, אורי, Uri, or from the last letters of the first four words, שילא, Shila.
It is a plea for redemption and prosperity on the personal level, and for the ultimate conquest of Israel's enemies. All these hopes are attached to the coming of Eliyahu, the herald of the Messiah.
